Paul & Sue on the Tryweryn April 5th & 6th 2008
While you
were all busy doing something Sue and I were bravely checking out the
state of the Lower Tryweryn. We met up with our friend John in his Mad
River Outrage and Sandie in her Esquif Zepher. Sue paddled the Legend
and I squeezed myself into my InaZone (I must have had too many mince
pies since last year!)
Nothing very exciting happened on Saturday until we got to Bala Mill
Fall - Sandie and I ran the drop happily, but John had a bit of
difficulty and ended up swimming. His embarrassment was increased by the
fact that one of his drysuit zips had not been done up!
Sunday was much the same - except there was snow on the hill tops and
every once in a while a snow flurry hit us. Both days were warmer than
we expected and the sun was out - when we could get out of the wind
there was real warmth in the sun! Again not much excitement until Bala
Mill Fall, again Sandie and I ran it happily and John had difficulty.
But today was different - he managed to retrieve the situation and ended
up running the chicken shoot without getting wet!
We can report that there are no trees down which will pose problems in
three weeks time - but we would be checking that on the trip anyway!
Tuesday evening sessions (2008) Tuesday evening paddling sessions start again on April 8th and
continue on Tuesday evenings until September.

Dragon Boat racing
Thanks to all those involved with the Dragon boat racing
on 7th October.
It was a fantastic day out.
Congratulations
to the adult team and the junior team, 2nd place overall for both teams
was a great result. A massive well done to the juniors though, only
losing first place by a second to a team full of much older and larger
members, and with only one nights practice in a couple of Canadians
strapped together—you should be really proud of yourselves
We need your help!
Just to say thank you to all that helped with the Canoe Compound clear
up today. I t has made a great improvement to the storage area, & has
freed up space for more boats in the future. It was a good effort by
all, Thanks again
Rob
Well, I did it!
At 06:35 on Thursday 27th September 2007 I stood on the
summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest point on the continent of Africa .
I
can honestly say that this trip was one of the hardest and best things
I’ve ever done, a truly life-changing experience.
I have put all my pictures on a website if you’d like to see them.
They’ve got captions so you can read for yourself all about the trip.
The address is

I have loved absolutely every minute of this adventure and just wanted
to say a huge thank you once again to all of you who have donated money
to Oxfam and supported me along the way. We visited two Oxfam projects
at the end of the trip which you’ll see in the photos, so you can get an
idea of the sort of projects that your money will go to help.
Asante and Kwa heri (‘thank you’ and ‘goodbye’ in Swahili!)

“Come in and join us, the water’s lovely”
– White Water Safety and Rescue at Canolfan Tryweryn
Whilst a weekend jumping into icy
cold rapids is hardly the most inviting prospect – this course is a must
for anyone who is serious about paddling on Grade 2 and harder rivers
and who takes any responsibility for leading groups. This is the third
time Paul and I have done the course and certainly the best so far – not
just because we wisely chose August rather than February this time! The
course has evolved over the last 10 years and is roughly structured
around the concept of SRTRG, (another set of initials to add to the
coach’s collection). SRTRG stands for Shout, Reach, Throw, Row, Go. I
am not going to list all that goes under each heading – you need to go
on the course for that, but I have created my own version to explain why
I think the course is so good.

Lynsey's Kilimanjaro Trek
I will be
leaving for Africa on Thursday (20th September) to begin my trek up
Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Oxfam. As I am expecting to be
completely out of contact with the outside world for 10 days, click here
to see a copy of the trek's itinerary if you are interested in tracking
my progress up the mountain. Thank you to everyone who has supported me
in this adventure and see you all soon!
